QUESTIONS ABOUT TRANSPORT

Q1: What type of animals do you transport?

A: Acme Pet Transport does not actually do the transporting or coordinating of the transport. We offer a message board/forum which allows users to freely post transports needed for rescue animals.

When looking for a volunteer driver - within their listing most drivers will specify what type & size of aniumals they will transport.

We only allow transport for animals that are in shelters or rescue groups.

!! We do not allow messages posted in the forum to transport animals from breeders, animals that have been sold as retail or personal .

Q2: How does a transport work?
A: There are many steps from start to the end of a transport.

In a nutshell, once the dog(s) is pulled from a shelter/rescue, volunteer drivers will transport the dog via relay, meeting at locations they have mutually decided upon. Each leg of the trip is usually 1 hr - 2hrs driving time. Coordinators may call drivers during transport to monitor - for various reasons - safety of the animal or to make sure they are on schedule as planned.

I suggest you read the forum and/or post any questions you may have about transporting.

Q3: Does Acme Pet Transport offer a service to setup transports?
A: NO. We are simply a forum/message board that offers a place for users to post messages reagrding transport and other rescue related topics.

There are volunteers that will offer to help coordinate. This is not to be abused!

Please read about setting up transports in the Transport Needed forum. We have many templates & explanations posted to make the process fairly simply.

You can also read our articles in the news section, "How to coordinate a transport" go to the May 2004 archives to view these articles.

Q4: How do I get started doing transports?
A: Visit the Volunteer driver forum. Post a message within the region in which you are willing to drive. Also, read the Transports needed forum frequently to look for transports going through your area.

Q5: How do I setup a transport?
A: There are a few examples posted in our "Transport Needed" forum

Q6: Are there volunteers willing to help coordinated my transport?
A: Yes. Please check out the Transport Coordinators Needed thread. In it you will find a list of people willing to help coordinate transports.

Please do not abuse the kindness of the volunteers - coordinating is very time consuming. If you have never coordinated a transport before please read our example transport post. Once you setup your own transport there's plenty of people in the forum who are willing to answer questions & help walk you through the process of coordinating a transport.

Q7: How much does it cost to get a transport done?
A: All transports through Acme Pet Transport are done by volunteer drivers. We are a non profit group helping to transport rescue dogs to their new forever homes, foster homes, or out of kill shelters to a safe rescue.

We do however accept donations to help with the cost of the web site or help rescues with emergency needs.

Q8: Do volunteer drivers get paid or reimbursed for expenses when doing transports?
A: No. Acme Pet Transport is strictly a volunteer group. If you choose to do a transport gas, tolls etc.. comes out of the pocket of the volunteer driver.

* please note: if the animals needs food - the person transporting will supply food. Each transport is different, be sure to ask the transport coordinator questions if you have any before commiting!

Q9: I posted a transport in transport needed & now it disappeared? Where did it go?
A: More than likely the transport did not have all the required information and was moved to incomplete transport forum.

QUESTIONS ABOUT HOME VISITS

Q10: I'm looking for someone to do a home visit - how do I locate someone in the area?
A: We have a listing of volunteers in in the Home visits - Available to do forum. If you don't see someone listed in the particular area - post a message in the "Home visits needed" section.

Q11: How do I get started doing home visits?
A: Visit the Home Visits - Available to do forum and post a message with the area in which you are willing to do visits.

MISC QUESTIONS

Q12: I run a transport service where people pay for our services - will you add my link to your links page?
